The study1 involves 174 couples. The researchers say this is the first long-term study comparing different types marriage intervention program during early years of marriage.

In this study, researchers find that watching 5 movies over a period of a month is beneficial in cutting divorce rate. This is an inexpensive, simple and fun approach but as effective to more expensive solutions such as an intervention with a sex therapist.

The study is lead by Ronald Roggae, Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Rochester. He says;

The results suggest that husbands and wives have a pretty good sense of what they might be doing right and wrong in their relationships. Thus, you might not need to teach them a whole lot of skills to cut the divorce rate. You might just need to get them to think about how they are currently behaving. And for five movies to give us a benefit over three years—that is awesome.
