If Pomegranates have an anti-aging property, eating peppers could make you live long. In recent study analysis1, researchers find an association between eating hot chili peppers and longevity.

As far as the quantities of peppers, the researchers had no idea. This makes this an observational study. However, capsaicin is mentioned in the report. Capsaicin is what makes peppers hot. Among its health benefits include anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial.

Both of these properties are linked to disease prevention. Benjamin Littenberg, co-author of the study and University of Vermont professor said;

The evidence isn’t strong enough to make me change my diet. Don’t smoke, limit calories, don’t drink to excess, get a flu shot every year — those are things we have very convincing evidence will help you live longer. I don’t know how much chili pepper to tell you to eat.

The findings of this study supports the previous study2 done in China.

Warning on Eating Too Much Hot Chili Peppers

The recent study didn't recommend to eat more hot peppers. But definitely, having a hot meal is a good one. However, if you're someone not get used to eating hot foods, keep the hotness or intensity moderate.

If you do get overboard and eat more of it, what you taste when you eat it is what you'll feel when you poop.

Chili peppers are among in the list of aphrodisiac foods. Hence, including them in your diet in moderation has an additional benefit of boosting your sex drive.

Other Known Benefits of Chili Peppers

If you're looking forward to losing weight, then adding chili peppers to your diet is a good idea. Capsaicin, the same component in chili peppers believed to be helpful with longevity also has a thermogenesis effect.

In turn, this effect increases the body's temperature turning white fat into brown fat. The author of the study Vivek Krishnan, a graduate student of University of Wyoming's School of Pharmacy explains;

In our bodies, white fat cells store energy and brown fat cells serve as thermogenic (heat produced by burning fat) machinery to burn stored fat.

It is also worth noting that having cold showers regularly can also increase brown fats. Hence, if you're into the process of losing weight, make chili peppers a part of your diet and have cold showers.

Another helpful benefit for weight loss is chili peppers can help suppress appetite. Instead of taking appetite suppressants, why not have chili peppers every meal.
