Exercise Can Boost Autophagy

As mentioned earlier, intermittent fasting can help maintain autophagy in the body. Another way to boosting it is through exercise. A study published in Nature4 found that when researchers let a mouse running on a treadmill for 30 minutes, it causes a rapid increase of autophagy in the muscle cells.

The researchers also found that exercise is a much faster way of inducing autophagy than caloric restriction. Exercising for 30 minutes induced a 40% to 50% increase in autophagy. Increasing exercise time from 30 minutes to 40 minutes induced a 100% increased in autophagy.
